Plc Wiring Diagram Symbols

By | August 31, 2022

PLC wiring diagrams are a critical component for any piece of industrial equipment. They help ensure the correct installation and operation of the PLC system and provide valuable insight into the connection and interaction between a number of different components. The symbols used to represent these connections can sometimes seem confusing and hard to decipher, but with a basic understanding of what they mean, it’s fairly easy to identify which symbols represent which parts.

One of the most common symbols used in PLC wiring diagrams is the “IN” symbol, which stands for “input.” This symbol is used to indicate connections where the PLC will be receiving data or signals from another component. For example, it may refer to a switch that is connected to the PLC telling it when to activate certain outputs.

The “OUT” symbol is the opposite of IN. It stands for output and is used to indicate connections where the PLC will be sending out data or signals. This could be something like a contactor/relay that actively opens or closes circuits as instructed by the PLC.

The last symbol we’ll discuss is the one used to indicate connections to power. This symbol is typically an asterisk, and is used to show the PLC where it should be receiving its voltage from. It usually points to a power supply or other source, like a wall outlet.

Of course, there are many more symbols used to build a complete PLC wiring diagram, but these three form the basis of the wiring diagram. With a basic understanding of these symbols and what they mean, you should be able to quickly identify and understand any PLC wiring diagram. Understanding these vital symbols is an important first step in troubleshooting and repairing any PLC-controlled piece of equipment.
